A 19-YEAR-OLD woman from Pelandaba West suburb in Bulawayo appeared in court for stealing his employer’s double deep fryer and US$50.

Shantel Nkomo was employed as a take-away attendant and stole from her employer Simbarashe Matindile.

Presiding over the case, Bulawayo magistrate Busani Sibanda sentenced Nkomo to four months imprisonment for theft.

The four months were wholly suspended on the condition that she does not commit any crime involving theft in the next five years.

Allegations against the perpetrator are that on 4 August 2022, Nkomo was left in the shop serving customers. She went on to steal Matindile’s double deep fry machine and US$50 and went away.

Matindile then reported the matter to the police leading to the arrest of Nkomo. The value of the property stolen was US$170 and everything was recovered.

When asked by the magistrate why she stole the property she said that she intended to sell the machine and to keep the US$50 to recover her unpaid salary.
