IT never rains but pours for Vushe Marime, a nurse at Mpilo Central Hospital who recently grabbed headlines after his ex-lover Judy Takanai from Barbourfields suburb in Bulawayo held a mock funeral procession for him.

Hardly a few weeks after his property was attached over legal costs incurred by Judy (57)’s husband Claudio Takanai when he sued him for bedding his wife, Marime (46) finds himself back in court after he allegedly failed to comply with terms and conditions of a protection order that was sought against him by Judy in 2019.

The reciprocal order compels both parties Judy and Marime to not verbally abuse or threaten each other in any way.

Marime, however, landed himself in hot soup when he allegedly insulted Judy saying she was very cruel and she would never enjoy his money easily adding that she was also an old lady who goes around proposing love to young men.

Circumstances are that on 5 May 2021 at around 10 am Judy was at the Bulawayo Magistrates Court at Tredgold Building together with her husband when Marime came and allegedly insulted her. Marime insulted Judy in Shona saying: “Judy une utsinye mari yangu uchaidya nemuseredzero uye uchaifira” meaning (Judy you are very cruel you shall not enjoy my money easily).

He went on and said: “urimbwa yemunhu hauzivi zvaunoita, urichembere inofamba ichinyenga vana vadiki, meaning (you are a dog and you do not know what you are doing, you are an old lady who goes around proposing love to young men).

After being insulted Judy reported the matter to the police leading to Marime’s arrest. Marime pleaded not guilty when he appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Amanda Ndlovu charged for Contravening Section 10 (7) of the Domestic Violence Act Chapter 5:16 (Failure to comply with terms and conditions of a protection order).

Marime through his lawyer, denied the charges saying Judy was a bitter mistress who did not want to see her ex-lover happy.

“Accused never breached the contents of the protection order in that he never shouted expletives as alleged. Accused will state that complainant is a bitter mistress, always building frivolous charges against him as she doesn’t want to see him rest”.

His lawyer further argued that Judy’s case was a counter report to the one made by Marime at Tshabalala Police Station against her after she held a mock funeral by carrying a coffin to his workplace and house.

“Complainant’s case is a counter report to the one made by the accused at Tshabalala Police Station against the complainant who held a mock funeral by carrying a coffin to his workplace and house which report is pending. Complainant quickly made this report to counter that one,” charged Marime’s lawyer.

He said Judy threatened to continue “fixing” Marime until he decided to change his mind and continue with the illicit sexual relationship.

“Complainant has always made it known to the accused that until such a time accused agrees to continue with the illicit sexual relationship, the accused will know no rest.

“Through various means, the court is the one being used by the complainant to force the accused back in the arms of the complainant. Accused will pray the court finds him not guilty and acquits him on the charges levelled against him”.

Judy refuted Marime’s accusations saying he was a “habitual liar”.

“He is habitual liar and has always lied. It’s not true that I don’t want to see him happy, I terminated the relationship after many confrontations with my husband. He is the one who was depending on me. He was benefitting a lot from me. The fact that my husband sued him for adultery doesn’t mean that I am bitter,” responded Judy.

The matter was postponed to 29 June 2021 for ruling.
