A woman from Old Pumula suburb in Bulawayo was left lying in a pool of blood after she was attacked on the head with an iron bar by her co-tenant who accused her of misusing electricity.

The incident happened this week on Tuesday at around 8pm.

Bulawayo acting police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele confirmed the incident and urged members of the community to engage relatives, friends or elders whenever they are faced with a dispute rather than to take the law into their hands.

She added: “Acting out of anger might lead to unnecessary loss of life.”

A neighbour, who witnessed the whole dramatic incident, said a woman, commonly known as NaSlender in the suburb, accused her co-tenant of misusing cash power electricity. In the heat of the moment she reached for an iron bar and attacked her twice on the head.

“Soneni fell down and bled profusely,” said the neighbour.

Soneni sustained a deep cut on the head, a swollen face and bruises on the arm.

Her husband called an ambulance which quickly came and ferried her to Mpilo Central Hospital for treatment.

“She is admitted at ward 2 and is in a critical condition,” said the neighbour.

Efforts to get a comment from her husband Gideon were fruitless.
