THE Warriors technical team is working flat out to secure a passport for England-based young midfielder Andy Rinomhota before the national team plays a crucial Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) final qualifier against Congo Brazzaville in March.
Twenty-one-year-old Rinomhota plays for Reading in the English second-tier division.
He was born in England to a Zimbabwean father and British mother and is one of the several England-born Zimbabweans whom Warriors coach Sunday Chidzambwa wants to be part of the national team.
Warriors manager Wellington Mupandare, who is at the forefront of tapping talent emerging from the Diaspora community, says they had started the process of securing the player a passport.
“As you can remember we tried securing a passport for Rinomhota when he was named in the provisional squad for the 2018 Cosafa Cup but we failed to acquire his documents on time and we have started the process all over again.
“This time around we are optimistic of securing his passport before the Warriors play their last Afcon qualifier in March,” said Mupandare.
Rinomhota played in his team’s 2-0 defeat to Manchester United in the fifth round of the FC Cup last Saturday.
He is one of several foreign-born players the Warriors technical team has identified to infuse into the national team.
Nottingham Forest defender Tendayi Darikwa and Wales-based Alec Mudimu have already played for the Warriors, helping the team in the Afcon qualifiers, where Zimbabwe is on the verge of qualifying for the finals.
