The Zimbabwe senior national football team arrived in Algeria in the early hours of Wednesday aboard a chartered flight ahead of their tricky Africa Cup of Nations qualifier tie against the Desert Foxes on Thursday evening.

The two teams meet again on Monday at the giant National Sports Stadium.

Team manager Wellington Mpandare said while they did not get the ideal preparations for the two ties, their hope was to see Warriors players work around the challenges that they faced.

“We did not manage to train as a group for some time. Some of our players (Teenage Hadebe, Tino Kadewere and Marvelous Nakamba) endured long trips from Europe to join camp and we immediately made them to fly to Algeria without rest.”

He added: “We are also going to play two games in a space of four days after Marshal Munetsi and Butholezwe Ncube were dropped owing to injuries. However, there will be a need for our players to work around these challenges at a time we wanted to have a wide pool of selection. We should approach these two games as if we are playing a tournament and I’m glad to say we have professional players who have seen it all in football,” said Mpandare.

Munetsi, who plays for French club Reims is said to have picked up an ankle injury last week before he got hurt again in his team’s 4-4 draw with Lens in a League 1 fixture on Sunday where the Zimbabwean midfielder played the full 90 minutes. Besides the ankle injury, Munetsi is said to be having an open wound.

The 24-year old was one of the players meant to land in Zimbabwe on Tuesday ahead of the Warriors departure for Algeria.

Others who are unavailable are Tatenda Mukuruva and Tendai Jirira. Former Dynamos defender, Victor Kamhuka who plays club football in Myanmar was consequently drafted into the Warriors squad.
