From three nominations at this year’s Roil Bulawayo Arts Awards (RoilBAA) for the first time in her career, Gospel music songstress Vuyo Brown is aiming to win her first gong at the city’s prestigious awards.

She is nominated for Outstanding Alternative (Maskandi/Jazz) Artiste alongside Hwabaraty, Noluntu J, Mandy Mae and Sam Musik.

For Outstanding Female Artiste, she is nominated alongside Minister Lindani and Sandra Ndebele.

Her song Thulawazi is nominated for song of the year with Makhekhekhe (by Top Kings), Asambeni (by Mzoe 7), Babazala (by Chipman), Like So/Mhoroi ( by Asaph), Amalobolo (by Ngoma Ingoma) and Ngawuzw’Umoya Wami by (Msiz’Kay featuring Awa Khiwe and Mzoe 7).

She told B-Metro that she considered all the nominations as an automatic win.

“The nominations are very encouraging to me because it’s a sign that I worked hard to the extent of gaining recognition. A nomination is a win for me because it means I did something right; it leaves me wanting to work harder, so I am happy and excited,” said Vuyo Brown.

With her song Thulawazi generating her more fans courtesy of its touching message, she also gave acknowledgement to other nominees on the categories as she described them as “amazing artistes”.

“All the three nominations are tight and so are the races with amazing artistes on the categories. I have already won by being counted among the best artistes in the region this year,” said Vuyo Brown.

She stated that she gives all the credit of her career to God after answering her calling (music).

“I started doing this professionally after God directed and showed me this is the path I must take. Everything I have achieved in music, all the glory and praise, goes back to Him, from today till I’m done with my purpose,” said Vuyo Brown.
