BINGA has some of the most beautiful beaches that remain unknown to a majority of Zimbabweans and the rest of the world and through sport, organisers of the Binga Kasambabezi Marathon hope to market Binga as a resort of choice for tourists.

On 29 October, athletics takes centre stage when hundreds of runners take to the road in the Binga Kasambabezi Marathon.

As of last week, 300 athletes had registered for the annual race that will be held at Binga Centre.
Still not satisfied with the figures, organisers of the race extended the deadline for registration by another five days.

Registration fees for the 42km marathon are set at US$10, while those interested in participating in the half-marathon will pay US$7. Registration to compete in the 10km race is US$5 and the 5km fun run has been set at US$2.

Recent Ncube, the local organising committee chairperson said they had set up an online registration platform.

“Registration will now close on Saturday, 22 October to give people who might have failed to meet the initial deadline time to sign up for the race. For the sake of convenience, we have an online registration platform that is easy to access and registration can be done following a few simple steps,” said Ncube.

Besides promoting health and fitness, the marathon will help expose Binga to the outside world and also promote tourism in the large district known for its diverse culture.
