He has never suffered from identity crisis, he knows he belongs to the Bantu people, and on this particular offering titled Ticheneke, globetrotting muso Jah Prayzah managed to reveal the sincerity of being an African.

The multi-award-winning artiste who turned 35 on 4 July, treated himself with a personal birthday gift in the name of the song Ticheneke, released on his special day of birth.

The song was produced by Rodney Beatz and it is accompanied by visuals which were directed by Zorodzai Chibuwe and Nic Roux with the visuals edited by Molotov Cocktail.

The song’s thematic concerns border around the relationship between a person with his or her ancestors.

In most patriarchal societies, it is believed that ancestors play a crucial role in protecting their people, once the ancestors turn their back onñ their lineage, bad things start to take their course on the innocents.

Through Ticheneke, Jah Prayzah asks people not to forget their African roots and they are constantly encouraged to appease the ancestors so as to protect them and cleanse them from bad luck.

The Military Touch boss, marries the Shona and Tswana cultures together, from the lyrical content, the instrumental of the song to the visual scenes and traditional Setapa (Tswana) dance displayed on the video.

With just a day of its release, Ticheneke visuals which were shot in Botswana and South Africa, are  ranked number three (Zimbabwean trending content) on You Tube with 136 000 views.

Fans are in love with Jah Prayzah’s offering.

One fan identified as Paul Tshwapa commented on the song and said: “People who are proud of their culture and race are always my champions. This man has never suffered from identity crisis.

Another fan identified as Stern Zvavamwe said: “To those of us who understand traditional diction, this song is deep.

“Many will dance to it without fully appreciating what this song is about, but that makes Jah Prayzah exceptional and a leader in his game.

“Well done, this song is intact from composition, instrument arrangement, scene set, and vocals. It definitely is another banger.”
