The return of Chibuku in numbers…16 goals, 4 home wins, 4 draws

From the eight games that were played to ‘re-kick off’ the Chibuku Super Cup, a total of 16 goals were scored.

The cup contest was suspended in July following a spike in Covid-19 cases, which forced the Sports and Recreation Commission to put the tournament on hold, with some games postponed as clubs concerned had been hit by the pandemic.

There were four home wins by Chicken Inn, Dynamos and FC Platinum and Harare City.
With their 4-0 triumph over Whawha, Norman Mapeza’s FC Platinum, were the biggest scorers in the contests’ return.

There were four draws in which there was a single goalless draw (Herentals 0-0 ZPC Kariba).

From the big three -Highlanders, Dynamos and CAPS United-, Makepekepe were the only side that failed to score and to at least get a point.

In total, there were five clubs (Bulawayo City, Whawha, Herentals, ZPC Kariba, Caps United) that failed to find the back of the net.

Gamecocks and Ngezi Platinum Stars have already secured their quarter-final berth while Dynamo’s 1-0 triumph over Yadah helped them to move one point shy of proceeding to the next stage.

The 2021 Chibuku Super Cup was modified to move away from the traditional knockout tournament into a mini-league competition.

The competition consists of four localised groups, with pool matches being played on a home and away basis to allow clubs to play more games.

The winners of the competition will represent Zimbabwe in the Caf Confederation Cup.

Winners of the 2021 Chibuku Super Cup will get US$75 000 in prize money paid in Zimbabwean currency at the prevailing official rate on the day.

Runners-up will walk away with US$50 000 and the two losing semi-finalists will each get US$25 000 while losing quarter-finalists will get US$15 000.

The 10 teams that fail to go past the group stages will each receive US$7 000.
