POLICE have cautioned Bulawayo’s rugby family to stop violating the country’s coronavirus lockdown regulations by going to Hartsfield Rugby Grounds and taking part in activities associated with the sport.

Rugby is one of the contact sporting activities which are still banned as part of measures to curb the spread of Covid-19.

Some rugby players and the sport’s office bearers in the City of Kings and Queens have reportedly been making regular visits to Bulawayo’s home of rugby to have group workouts and play touch rugby.

Touch rugby is a version of the game where players do not tackle each other but instead make contact with their opponents using their hands on any part of the body, clothing or the ball.

B-Metro Sport has gathered some rugby players frequently converge on Mpopoma’s Bango Ground amid reports that other individuals usually gather at Hartsfield for the purposes of consuming alcohol.

A message circulating on Bulawayo social media platforms cautioned those who have been meeting at Hartsfield, with the law enforcement agents saying they were prepared to arrest those flouting the country’s lock-down guidelines

“Good morning people, is Hartsfield open for business? Because we gave a warning to people who were playing and drinking beer, can team representatives talk to your players. Next time no negotiations, we will take all and the managers of those players as well even if liyabe lingekho (even if you are not there) on the day thank you, have a great day,’’ reads the message.
