If Boity and Mbo Mahocs did it, what can stop Spanchi Omnyama from doing it?

Bulawayo’s female fast-rising presenter Spanchi Omnyama, real name Nonhlanhla Blessing Sibanda, is causing havoc on social media after local media house Puzzle Moments posted the artiste’s nude photoshoot pictures on Instagram.

The pictures reveal ancient art on her body. The art is called Mehndi or Henna in the Indian culture.

According to the tribe’s cult from Asia, Mehndi is a form of body art in which decorative designs are created on a person’s body using a paste, created from the powdered dry leaves of the henna plant.

She said the main reason for the photoshoot was to face her fears and freely express herself.

“The main motive for the photoshoot was to break boundaries and express myself through art. Anything is possible in life and any woman can do what she feels is important to her.

“Particularly, with the nude pictures, I wanted to face my fears and do something that I felt like doing for once. Many times, I have tried to do this but I was scared that people would judge me,” said Spanchi Omnyama.

She said women were victims of body shaming and worse, they face sexual harassment on the streets and workplaces about their body structures and way of dressing.

She believes the photoshoot will inspire a lot of women to have the guts of expressing themselves the way they desire.

“We women go through a lot every day on the streets because some people feel some kind of way because of our bodies. A woman’s body is a sign of power and it’s one of the things that makes Africans beautiful.

“Because of the sexual harassment that we face everyday even at work places, women become scared and get a low self-esteem.

“The victimisation of women because of their colour or body structure is something that the society must do away with, and just allow women to express themselves in any way that makes them comfortable,” she said.

In the interim, the beauty, who was snatched from Keyona TV by Harare businessman Tinashe Mutarisi’s Nash TV, said she was one of the cast members of a new film Missing Grace.

The film will premier soon on small screens.
