HAVING reached his initial dream of playing in Europe, FC Platinum attacking midfielder Silas Songani now dreams of success in business and if the opportunity arises, he hopes to have at least a season in the English Premier Soccer League.

Songani (31) returned from Denmark in December 2019, having spent five years in Europe where he was snapped by Danish side SonderjyskE Fodbold from Harare City in 2014 after a good season in the local league the previous year.

Songani played two seasons at SonderjyskE Fodbold in Denmark and was loaned to FC Sydves and Elverum with the former signing him permanently before he returned home at the end of last year.

He narrowly missed out on a chance to clinch the Castle Lager Soccer Star of the Year award in 2013, losing it to then Dynamos captain Tawanda Muparati and ended up as first runner-up.

“I now want to pursue some business interests. I also hope to have at least one season in the English Premier Soccer League,” said the dreadlocked player whose football journey began at Dzivarasekwa Academy and passed through a number of football institutions that include Aces Academy, DSTV, Quick n’ Easy and Harare City.

He marked his return to the domestic scene at the end of March with two goals, the first a marvellous free kick to propel FC Platinum to victory over Highlanders in the Castle Challenge Cup match at Barbourfields Stadium, in an entertaining fixture that was marred by crowd trouble right at the end.

The former Warriors striker, playing his first competitive match for the three times-in-a-row Zimbabwean champions since his return from Denmark struck a stunning free-kick from outside the box past goalkeeper Ariel Sibanda, then later tucked the ball in after being beautifully put through by the industrious Perfect Chikwende.

Songani advised upcoming football stars to work extra hard and to be patient in their quest to get better deals.

“The young players need to work hard and be patient because the chance may not come at the expected time but it will surely come. Choosing good friends who motivate and encourage them is equally important to the grooming of a player. Criticism should not dishearten a focused player, instead they should learn from constructive criticism, ignore misplaced criticism and do not be afraid to go back a few steps in order to move further ahead,” he said.
