Do not come wearing a fake sneaker!
Bulawayo fashion and sneaker fans are set to take part in a ‘first-ever’ Sneakers Expo which will bring together collectors, suppliers and designers of fancy footwear, and head honchos in the business are set to walk away with bragging rights.
The sneaker faithfuls will convene at The Barn in Hillside on Saturday 1 May, where they will be sharing precious information on these valuable shoes.
The extravaganza, which is a first of its kind in Zimbabwe, is meant to celebrate different footwear trends around the city, an initiative which was begotten by Mlamuli Moyo and Mthulisi Moyo who are themselves religious ‘sneaker men’.
Running under the theme ‘sneaker drip’ the expo will showcase some of the popular brands such as Kanye West-owned Yeezy sneakers and Nike-Air-Jordan, a collaboration of the two footwear giants who rule the world.
This rare footwear feat has potential to provide sneaker heads in Bulawayo an exhilarating opportunity to trade off their fancy footwear, and stakes are high such that respected collectors have begun showing off their kicks on social media platforms #ByoSneakerExpo.
“We came up with this idea to allow people to celebrate and express themselves through showcasing different sneakers.
“On the day of the event, spectators will also have the privilege of exchanging sneakers.
“Because there is a quality standard we want to maintain on this expo, we will be having a number of salesmen who will be selling sneakers of high quality,” said Mlamuli Moyo.
Respected sneaker dealers like Leroy Waps and Davison Feliate are expected to grace the expo.
“I think Bulawayo has taken the sneakers game to the top level. Men are mostly recognised by the shoes they are wearing before even one looks at their dress code, so at this expo we will be engaging with people on how to match their style of dressing with their shoe game.
“We will be offering quality sneakers at affordable prices because we want spectators to have a chance of accessing sneakers of their choice at a give away price.
“This campaign will only be valid for the single day of the event,” said Waps.
Tips on how to keep sneakers clean, fresh and on point will be shared.
To adhere to the Covid-19 rules and regulations, Moyo said tickets for the event were sold strategically to have a limited number of people gracing the show.
“It is of paramount importance to take note and be aware that Covid-19 is real, so we managed to design the expo in a manner that will accommodate only a reasonable number of people.
“If you are not wearing a mask you will not be tolerated. To enter at the expo, social distancing and hand sanitising regularly will be exercised,” said Moyo.
