IN a tragic incident which left residents of Mabutweni suburb in Bulawayo shell-shocked, an 11-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from a tree after being scolded by her mother.
It is reported that Patience Happiness Chishemu who might have not taken lightly the reprimand from her mother, reportedly hanged herself using a rope on a short apple tree in the yard.
Bulawayo acting police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele confirmed the incident and said police were investigating the shocking incident.
Asst Insp Msebele urged parents to monitor behaviour change in their children adding that they should be on the look out to avoid future problems.
It is alleged that on 6 September 2022, Patience had a misunderstanding with her mother over why she had failed to bring her food to Mabutweni shops where she sells gas.
Her mother then beat her on the legs several times using a cooking stick and then went out leaving her daughter alone at home.
It is reported that on the same day at around 2pm, Patience’s mother was informed by other children that her daughter had hanged herself.
The mother rushed back home and found the now deceased’s unconscious body dangling from a tree branch.
She tried to save her life by untying her from the tree branch and carried her to the sitting room where she called an ambulance.
Sadly, the ambulance crew pronounced her dead on arrival.
