A 20-YEAR-OLD man from Bulawayo who is employed as a security guard was arrested for allegedly raping a 36-year-old sex worker he had hired for a night while on duty.

Bukhosi Lusiyabwe reportedly forced himself on the victim after she reportedly demanded to be paid before they could engage in sex.

Allegations against Lusiyabwe are that on 2 July 2022 and around 1am, while he was on duty at a shop situated along 11th avenue and between George Silundika and Fife Street, he left the premises and approached the victim who was operating at corner 11th avenue and George Silundika Street and asked to have sex with her.

The victim reportedly agreed and charged Lusiyabwe US$20 for a night.

Lusiyabwe then took the victim to his workplace where upon arrival they got inside a kombi which was parked at the back of the premises.

While inside the vehicle a misunderstanding reportedly ensued between the two parties as the victim was demanding to be paid first before they could engage in sex.

The accused reportedly became violent and drew an Okapi knife which was in the vehicle and poked the victim inside the left nostril.

In a bid to make the victim bow down to his sex demands, Lusiyabwe also took an iron bar from the kombi which he used to hit the victim twice on the back before he ordered her to lie down on a reclined seat.

He then forcibly removed the victim’s pair of trousers and pants and allegedly raped her.

As if that was not enough, he then pulled the victim out of the kombi and forced her to lie down on the ground.

He then went on to violate her again.

The victim managed to escape and met police officers who were on patrol and narrated her ordeal to them.

The police officers swiftly reacted and went to the scene where they arrested Lusiyabwe.

The victim who sustained bruises in her nose and some pain on her neck was referred to United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) for treatment.

Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident and urged members of the public to desist from violence.

“I confirm the arrest of Bukhosi Lusiyabwe for raping a 36-year-old sex worker. We urge members of the public to desist from violence. Gender-based violence is a cause for concern and people should be aware that rape cases carry a mandatory sentence of 15 years,” said Inspector Ncube.
