SEASONED pool players are going to represent Bulawayo province at the Carling Black Label National Pool championships slated for July 9 in Harare.
On Saturday, Palace Hotel, Skittle Inn, Nookies Bar and Dawn Sports Bar played host to City of Kings and Queens’ Carling Black Label Regional finals where veterans of many pool battles Robin Nikiforos, Sthembiso Dive, Priscilla “Vari” Chisoro and Reya “Mai Chisamba” Chitokwane emerged as the top four players in the ladies category.
In the men’s category, Wryn “Ghost” Nhachi, Stephen “Vardy” Paswani, Clement “Kille”Gutse, Tafadzwa Mushangwe, Nomara Chisuwa and Hillary Mukamuri earned themselves tickets to the national finals following pulsating last matches played at a packed and heaving Dawn Sports Bar.
The Bulawayo provincial matches were graced by former Bulawayo Pool Association chairman Godfrey Kondo who played an exhibition match against Mike Mutsvedu who turns out for Queens Pool Academy.
“It was good to see hordes of pool lovers throng Dawn Sports Bar to witness the final qualifier matches. It’s our sincere hope that these experienced 10 players are going to represent Bulawayo province so well,” said Dawn Pool proprietor Osborne Wells Dziko who doubles up as the BPA publicity secretary.
A fortnight ago, the Zimbabwe Pool Association (ZIPA) outlined the playing format of the annual tournament which makes a return this year after being put on hold for two years owing to Covid-19 outbreak.
The regional qualifiers will be staged at 24 centres nationwide with Matabeleland North, Masvingo, Midlands, Mashonaland Central and Manicaland set to have their regional games on Saturday.
