TWO armed robbers have been arrested after they allegedly stole a bag full of panties and cash at a house in Bulawayo’s Mpopoma suburb.
According to a source, who declined to be named in fear of reprisal, the duo, Thuthukani Ngwenya (22) of Entumbane suburb and Lodenia Sibanda (21) of Mpopoma suburb, hatched a plan to pounce on Beven Mutanga’s house in Mpopoma suburb.

The privy source said Sibanda helped his partner in crime with information on when Mutanga returns home from work.
Last week on Thursday at around 7pm the accused persons allegedly used an iron bar to break the door handle and gain access into the house.

“They were armed with an axe and an iron bar. They used an iron bar to open the door. They thought they had stolen clothes but the bag was full of panties and a jersey. The items were to be sold at a flea market in town,” he said.

They were not done yet as they went for the bag with cash.

“They then ransacked the whole house, they found a bag with US $2870, ZW80 and Open view decoder and took it,” said the source.

They took to their heels with the loot.

“They fled with the bag full of panties and another with cash. They were not caught,” said a neighbour who chose not to be named.

It seems the duo of Ngwenya and Sibanda were not satisfied with what they stole. A source said: “Last week on Saturday they manhandled Vusi Mpofu at around 9pm in Mpopoma suburb. They searched him and took his two cellphones — Huawei Y330 AND Nokia Lumia 630 all valued at US $1400.”

They were unlucky because Mpofu recognised Sibanda. He (Mpofu) rushed to Western Commonage Police Station where he made a report leading to the arrest of the pair.

They are expected to appear in court soon.

Contacted for a comment acting Bulawayo police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele said: “We are investigating a case a of robbery that occurred at Mpopoma suburb last week where Thuthukani Ngwenya and Lodenia Sibanda broke into a house and stole cash and a bag full of undergarments. They also robbed a resident of his two cellphones. They were arrested and are expected to appear in court soon.”
