Players up for FUZ award

FIVE Castle Lager Premier Soccer League players are vying for Footballers Union of Zimbabwe (FUZ) April Player of the Month award.

Players who have been nominated for the gong are Highlanders’ goalminder and captain Ariel “Mangoye” Sibanda, in-form Bulawayo Chiefs midfield dynamo Mthokozisi Msebe, on-fire Hwange forward Brighton Makopa, free-scoring Manica Diamonds striker Fortune Binzi and Dynamos wonder-boy Tanaka Shandirwa.

Sibanda (34), a former senior national team goalkeeper, has so far kept six clean sheets in seven starts in between the sticks for the black and white army.

Makopa boasts of four goals under his belt for the coalminers who have however, recently lost two consecutive league matches (Highlanders 1-0, Bulawayo Chiefs 3 Hwange 0).

Binzi has partnered well with Manica Diamonds new signing Bret Amidu in a development that has seen the former find the target six times in three appearances for Jairos Tapera’s mentored side.

Meanwhile, Mhondoro’s Baobab Stadium will on Sunday be the place to be when high-riding Ngezi Platinum Stars entertain sporadic defending league champions FC Platinum.

Highlanders, who have a game in hand and are yet to register a loss together with Chicken Inn, will face newboys Simba Bhora at Barbourfields Stadium.

Coming from a home 2-1 win over Herentals, Gamecocks will travel to Triangle for a date with fifth-placed Manica Diamonds.

Ariel Sibanda

Prince Matore’s mentored Gamecocks will pin their hopes on their man of the moment Michael Charamba and bustling forward Brian Muza.

The fit-again Charamba scored a wonder goal last weekend to take his tally to three for the Simbisa Brands-sponsored outfit.

Muza, a 2021 /2022 Soccer Star of the Year finalist, finally broke his goal duck after last scoring for Prince Matore’s mentored side in September last year.

Bruised Herentals will meet Dynamos at National Sports Stadium while Bulawayo Chiefs play host to newbies Sheasham at Luveve Stadium.

Thulani “Thuts” Sibanda’s Triangle charges will do battle against Yadah FC in a match slated for Sunday at Gibbo Stadium.

Tied on 15 points with Bosso, the league’s former Cup Kings, CAPS United will fight it out against Hwange at National Sports Stadium.

On Monday, ZPC Kariba will face Black Rhinos.
