Multi-award-winning actress and musician Novuyo Seagirl was treated to a Roast on 24 June as a way of celebrating her immense contribution to the growth of the local arts industry.
The Roast was held at Hope Centre in Bulawayo.
A roast is a form of humour in which a specific individual who will be a guest of honour, is subjected to jokes at their expense, intended to amuse the event’s wider audience. It’s a way of honouring the specific individual in a unique way.
Qeqeshiwe Mntambo, Stewie Le Savage Thando Gwinji, Zwe the Comedian, award winning journalist Sindiso Dube and B-Metro reporter Langalakhe Mabena and Novuyo Seagirl’s twin Nomvula Ntombuyolwandle were part of the panel for the roast.
The organiser of the Roast Ntando Van Moyo who was also the Roast master said the comedy event came with a lot of surprises.
“The Roast was very powerful, there were a lot of revelations and surprises from people we didn’t expect to be heavy hitters like Stewie Le Savage, but on the gig, Stewie was on fire as well as other panelists.
“It was a great show and people came in their numbers to support us as we celebrated Novuyo Seagirl, someone who has contributed a lot to the growth of the local arts industry,” said Van Moyo.
He also said that Umahlekisa was organising another gig which would see another great figure in the city being roasted.
The main attraction of the show, Novuyo Seagirl, said she was delighted that she was given her flowers while she could still smell them.
“The roast was a very rare opportunity for me to be celebrated while time permits. I thank all the close people to me especially Umahlekisa comedy club for honouring me through the roast.
“I felt useful and important during the roast and I wish to see other people in the industry being celebrated in that manner,” said Seagirl.
