Renowned seven-member Afro-pop band Ngoma iNgoma have shared their musical journey in the year 2019 from scooping a Skyz Metro award to performing at big shows.

The group, which came onto the scene in 2019, showed they meant business as they landed gigs in Harare and also got the opportunity of marketing themselves in South Africa at the Kwaguqa International Arts Festival.

“2019 has been a great year, we saw the recording of our album in February and successful launch in May,” said Ngoma Ingoma spokesperson, Blessing “Stot Bass” Sitotombe.

Stot Bass said they were happy that their hard work paid off as they won their first award at the Skyz Metro FM with their Amalobolo track as the best song of the year.

“Considering all these events within the year of inception we feel very encouraged and we are raring to make 2020 another successful year. We won the Song of the Year award from Skyz Metro which we are grateful for,” he said.

Within a space of one year, the band has managed to tour part of Southern Africa.

“The response has been amazing from the people, they received the music well and we performed at festivals such as Kwaguqa Music Festival in Witbank, South Africa, Harare Jazz Festival, and the Victoria Falls Carnival.

“As Ngoma iNgoma we are so grateful to God and our followers for where we are today. It’s less than a year since we released our project and so much has come our way and we believe the best is yet to come.

One of our goals is to reach out to so many people and influence a positive change to their lives and we are happy to say people have contacted us testifying,” said Stot Bass.

The group said the industry was challenging as there were no proper structures to support musicians.

“We did face challenges. Coming up in the industry is challenging now as the proper structures aren’t there to support musicians with record deals, marketing and publishing; the artiste then has to carry that cost to make the music then promote it,” said Stot Bass.

The group looks forward to making more music this year as they want to grow as a band reaching out to other places as they will be doing more shows and releasing music in 2020.

“People should expect more music from Ngoma iNgoma for 2020. We are currently preparing to record our second album. This recording should be done by the end of February and released hopefully in March. We have special surprises and shows that we’ll advise on as time goes by,” said Stot Bass.

Ngoma iNgoma released their debut self-titled album last year at the Bulawayo Theatre and Amalobolo became a crowd favourite. The group also dazzled at last year’s Bulawayo Arts Awards. This led the group to embark on a citywide tour called “Taking the Music to the People” which made them appeal to more people after performances at Mapiko Cocktail Bar, The Place, New Alabama and BAC Leisure.
