AFTER facing the relentless pandemic lockdowns, Deejays are in for the glow of a new dawn with the reopening of licensed bars and nightclubs.

It’s a double celebration as the DJs Association of Zimbabwe (Djaz) is celebrating its first anniversary in a party mood that is set to grip the country in the virtual space.

An array of DJs set to perform include DJs Mzoe, Nospa, L roy , Ribbs, Arch banks, Eve , Slim, MC Bigdollarbruce,  Tinashe Chikuse, Phatisani Sibanda, Bert and Slimphat.

Djaz treasurer Benard Chambati said the celebration comes as they saw record membership growth in 12 months.

As Djaz we will be celebrating our first anniversary and the host venue will be at the Theatre in the Park in Harare while the event will be live streamed on Saturday on our Facebook page.

The event will feature DJs across all provinces in Zimbabwe. This is a milestone for us and a novelty association as this has never been done before," said Chambati.

Djaz was officially registered with the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe last year with a successful launch that was held virtually due to the Covid-19 lockdown measures.

The event was graced by NACZ director Nicholas Moyo who supported the organisation’s main mandate of making DJs and MCs be recognised as professionals and be empowered in the music industry in Zimbabwe.

On the opening of licensed bars and nightclubs, Chambati said:

“This was overdue. As DJs and MCs entertainment is our livelihood. As we value our patrons’ health, our mother body must always find ways that are feasible in dealing with such a pandemic and we thank our Government for such a gesture to open bars and clubs.

“As DJs our plea is for all stakeholders to join us in this journey as this will help to empower DJs and MCs so they will operate as professionals with a better livelihood,” said Chambati.

“We acknowledge Theatre in the Park for availing venu, Dollarbill Entertainment, Mahogany TV and Premier Sound for assisting with DJ’s studio equipment” said Chambati.
