FOOTBALL fans know him as the star who put Zimbabwe on the international stage.
But he is proving to be more than just a football player.
Marvelous Nakamba is building a multi-purpose sports complex in Bulawayo.
It will cater, not just for football, but four other disciplines – volleyball, basketball, tennis and swimming.
It sits on a 5.1 hectares piece of land in Mahatshula suburb that was availed to the Aston Villa midfielder by the Bulawayo City Council.
The complex will be run by the Marvelous Nakamba Foundation (MNF).
The foundation’s mission is to make a lasting difference and impact positively on disadvantaged children and young people through sports, education and opportunities within marginalised communities in Zimbabwe.
Already the foundation pays fees for more than 1 000 children in 21 schools throughout the country.
Earthmoving machines are already on site to clear the land in preparation for construction.
“The multi-purpose complex will have football fields, tennis court, basketball court, volleyball pitch, swimming pool, changing rooms, sitting area, ablutions and a parking area,” said the MNF in a statement.
