Mzoe 7’s secret to success

He is said to be the most grinding artiste in the local music industry and award-winning maestro Mzoe 7 has revealed the secret behind his success.

“Teamwork is the only way to success,” said Mr Gaga Gugu, as Mzoe 7 is affectionately known.

The Entumbane-bred muso who has over 10 years in the industry has never released a full-length album under his name but his success is unmatched.

Every time he releases a song, Mzoe 7 makes sure the offering is accompanied by visuals, something that he said makes his music more unique.

He said he invests more on the visuals side so that the songs gain more mileage and relevance.

The tactics have seen most of his videos from Asambeni, Ginimbi and the latest Imali, enjoying a good rotation on most music video channels including Channel O.

“It’s awesome to see my songs playing on national and regional radio and television stations and that on its own keeps me going.

“In my entire career, I have never released a full-length album because from my perspective, an album requires a lot of work and it’s draining for it to be solidified.

“I specialise in singles and if you take a look, I release songs that have videos as follow ups so as to keep myself relevant.

“Most of my videos are resident on Channel O and it’s because of the massive work we put through with my team,” said Mzoe 7.

Many artistes continue to struggle in the industry because they think they know everything and they cannot stand correction by anyone, even an expert.

Mzoe 7 is not part of that bunch of creatives as he is open to learning new things and to be given advice by different people.

He credits his videographer Ras Quisity for showing him the ropes on the cinematography aspects which has led to Mzoe 7 becoming the brand he is today.

“All of my success is owed to team work.

I don’t do these things alone, from music production to the final video output, it will be efforts and lessons that I take from many people who are involved in production.

“When I write music for recording, the producers mainly Dagger Beats, DJ Drums and Lance Hebron (some that I have worked with), always give me tips on the lyrics for the songs to come out properly.

“This also applies to when we are shooting music videos.

If you are an artiste, it’s good to have a vision of what you want for that project to be on point.

“Every time we shoot a music video, I partake in writing the scripts and sometimes I become a co-director.

“I give credit to Ras Quisity because he has played a major role on teaching me aspects of video production.

I wish we get more cinematographers in the industry who are open to suggestions and always have time to teach others on what they are doing,” said Mzoe 7.
