After winning the Best Dance/House/Kwaito award at this year’s PPC Zimbabwe Music Awards (PPC Zima), local muso, Mzoe 7’s exploits continue being recognised as he stands to win another award at the Star FM Listener’s Choice Awards.

The awards, which run under the theme “#RespectTheHustle”, will be conducted virtually next month.

Mzoe 7, who is nominated for the Best House/AmaPiano award for his hit song Asambeni, faces stiff competition from other nominees, who include Sha Sha (Sing It), Nox Guni featuring South Africa’s Master KG (My Melody), Lloyd Soul (Crown) and Rose Mambo (Lujulile).

In an interview at his home in Entumbane, Mzoe 7 said he was overwhelmed by the success he has achieved considering that the Covid-19 lockdown threw spanners into the works of many artistes.

“I don’t know how I can describe how I feel right now, but I am overwhelmed by the win at the Zima and the current Star FM awards nomination.

“This is a testimony that hard work pays because the song Asambeni was produced during lockdown but still it has garnered me the fruits of success,” said Mzoe 7.

With the national recognition he has attracted this year, Mzoe 7 revealed that he is ready to conquer the Zimbabwean music scene.

“Late last year, Asambeni won me a number of awards including that of the regional Roil Bulawayo Arts Awards (RoilBAA). I have gone on to charm Zimbabwe with the Zima accolade. My story still continues, I want to take over Zimbabwe,” said Mzoe 7 who doesn’t have an album in his career.

He attributes his success to a number of artistes and doyens, who helped him carve his name in music.

The late hip-hop sensation Cal_vin, Kudzai Chikomo, Prince Eskhosini, Ras Quisity, Klobber Fusion, and Fella Kuti (indirectly) are few of the people who inspired Mzoe 7 to soldier on with his career even in the face of seemingly insurmountable challenges.

“Most importantly, Sandra Ndebele gave me a chance to grow in the industry and DJ Skaiva has played a huge role in criticising my music.

“It will be unfair to leave out my mother and Simon Mambazo in this list because they are the people who always give me great advice when it comes to my music,” said Mzoe 7.
