“WE may stumble and fall but shall rise again; it should be enough if we did not run away from the battle.”

The above words by yesteryear scholar Mahatma Gandhi certainly ring true in the ears of 16-year-old Zimbabwe motocross champion Tanyaradzwa Muzinda who three years ago fell off a 100-feet long jump, hurting her hip, while fine-tuning for a race.

Taking up motocross at a tender age of five at the instigation of her father and choosing to ignore the potential risk of serious injury, speaks volumes about Muzinda’s courage and desire for greater achievements.

After that injury, the teenager reckoned: “I was not able to walk properly for a few months. It also affected my back, so I have back problems that I have to work on.”

The good news is that the back problems have not hindered her from doing well and getting recognised.

The fact that she has been nominated for United States of America’s Time Magazine Nickelodeon Kid of The Year 2020 award, cements that Muzinda’s profile has continued to grow in leaps and bounds in the process putting Zimbabwe on the global map.

However, to her it is not all about bagging the top gong.

Writing on Twitter, the selfless Muzinda , a 2015 Junior Sportswoman Of The Year who is also  an honorary ambassador of the European Union to Zimbabwe for Youth, Gender, Sports and Development, said: “I am honoured to have made shortlist for Nickelodeon Kid Of The Year 2020 with Time Magazine, even if l don’t win this Award being alongside these incredible kids gives me hope for a better future, celebrating kids around the world who are inspiring in their communities.”

Kid of the Year honour is a multi-platform initiative recognising extraordinary young leaders aged between eight and 16 who are making a positive impact in their communities.

Each of the finalists will receive funds to further their respective causes and have the opportunity to serve as a Kid Reporter for TIME for Kids with exclusive access to a Nickelodeon event.

The award is sponsored by Nickelodeon in collaboration with Time, a global media brand that reaches a combined audience of more than 90 million around the world.
