Nketa-bred music producer Kesani Mefibosheth Ncube otherwise known as Murphy Cubic in local music circles believes that the work he has put in this year is enough to prove he is a strong force in Bulawayo’s music production.

Murphy, who started music production in 2014, managing to go commercial last year, is nominated at this year’s Roil Bulawayo Arts Awards (RoilBAA) for the Outstanding Music Producer category alongside Smallz from Elephant Herd and Nashville from Studio Rock Up.

It’s not a walk in the park for one to be crowned the best producer this year as all the nominees have done justice to deserve the nominations, something that Murphy Cubic acknowledges.

Smallz is the beat master behind production for Maskandi artiste Gazelimnyama and Hwabaraty who boast of two nominations this year, while Nashville produces for the likes of Iyasa, Black Umfolosi and Tshibilika artiste Clement Magwaza.

Murphy Cubic, who is back in the country from his base in South Africa working on a number of projects locally said:

“This is my first RoilBAA nomination and I am very excited and grateful as it is such an honour to receive a nod from my city and for my work to be recognised.

“I don’t want to lie the nominees in the category are tight as their works speak volumes for themselves but at the end of the day there must be a winner, so this is going to be very interesting,” he said.

He also revealed that some of his productions had been nominated and won awards before as last year his work with Lee McHoney on the song My Qualifier won an accolade.

Lately, Murphy Cubic has been putting in work in neighbouring South Africa where he managed to find a slot as award winning Holly Rey’s producer and their work combined has led to great success and history.

His production on Holly Rey’s You song boasts of two nominations at this year’s South Africa Music Awards (SAMAs) for Song Of The Year and Best Music Video Of The Year.

The song was also awarded and certified Multi-Platinum in August after it sold over 80 000 copies.

Locally, Murphy produces for a number of artistes including Qeqeshiwe Mntambo, Lee McHoney, Boy Nino who boast of a collaboration with Mzansi rapper Emtee on the song No Problems and set to release another single featuring Saudi which is also produced by Murphy.

Murphy is working on his first Extended Play.
