After an exciting three-hour Lupane State University (LSU) beauty pageant, the institution now has a new Miss LSU!
Miss LSU Michelle Ngubo (21) was declared the winner at the event which was held on April 20 at Afrilodge.
Michelle emerged victorious against eight other hopefuls in a tough competition, which saw Cassandra Ncube crowned first princess, and Charmaine Murerabvudzi, the second princess.
Michelle is studying Tourism and Hospitality Management at the university.
She said she felt honoured to get the award though it was not her first time to become a beauty queen.
“It’s not about the crown, but the oaths I made to serve my people and grow together as the journey deepens. I’m not just a queen but a youth venturing into leadership and ambitions,” she said.
She said she had been a model since the age of six.
“ I used to model for my mom who is a fashion designer and I would advertise her clothing designs, going forward to high school at Empandeni High School I would participate in the modelling competitions for which I contested and lost hence at that time I got demotivated.
“Then in Form 4 I became the first princess for Miss Winter and that gave me a positive attitude to venture more into modelling,” she said.
After school, she got a modelling gig in Botswana, Francistown for the Woolaholic company, and became the first runner-up.
“Believe me it’s not easy, but it’s a passion-driven gift I have earned. First I would like to thank God for the gift, guidance, and love. I would also love to thank my family as without their support and assurance I wouldn’t be a model, and also thank my friends; they are my biggest cheerleaders, and last but not least to thank my best friend and closest friend Prince Zengo and Chantel Mpala who have been with me through the rocky paths,” she said.
