LIONEL MESSI has a higher FIFA20 rating than Cristiano Ronaldo, according to leaked stats.
The pair have a famous rivalry and the debate rages on about which man is the greatest of the modern era.
But Barcelona’s Argentine wizard appears to have edged ahead after stats were leaked ahead of the hugely popular game’s UK release on September 27.
Last year’s instalment of the EA Sports phenomenon – FIFA19 – was widely criticised by lovers of the game but there was one thing a lot of fans thought they got right.
Both Ronaldo and Messi were given the same 94/100 rating and while their individual stats varied in line with their real life styles, it was widely accepted that it was correct to rate them both the same.
But according to Twitter account FIFA20 News, the pair have been split – with Messi retaining his 94 rating with Ronaldo slipping a point to 93.
The iconic duo remain the highest rated players on the game outside of the FIFA Icons but are closely followed by Neymar (92), Eden Hazard (91) and Mo Salah, Virgil Van Dijk and Luka Modric all on 90.
Player ratings always split opinion among FIFA fans but there is added controversy this time around given the omission of some of the world’s biggest teams.
Juventus and Ronaldo will not feature on the game after they signed an exclusive deal with FIFA’s biggest rivals Pro wwEvolution Soccer – following the lead of Boca Juniors last season who were renamed Buenos Aires midway through the year. Some fans have suggested
Ronaldo’s rating is a swipe at Juventus for breaking away from the famous franchise.
As a result of the deal EA confirmed Juventus would be re-branded as “Piemonte Calcio” – with a custom badge and kits made for the team.
The Allianz Stadium will also not feature on the next FIFA, while Juventus star Miralem Pjanic has been named an ambassador for PES 2020. It is the first time in 25-years FIFA have not had the licence for Juventus to feature on their game, with the Italian giants called PM Black White in PES 2019.
And EA’s share value plummeted by £660m after the news was announced.
Real Madrid’s Hazard and Liverpool’s Van Dijk were also announced as cover stars earlier this year.
