In an incident that has left  community members shocked a man from Gokwe who impregnated  his cousin has vowed to marry her.

The issue is a major cultural taboo in the area.

According to a source from Mandeya Village under Chief Njelele, Rufaro Mazula (33) has set tongues wagging after disturbing news  that he impregnated his cousin  Tadiwanashe Sibanda (20) broke out .

The matter came to light a fortnight ago after Sibanda disclosed to her aunt Rumbidzai Gweshe that she was impregnated by her cousin.

That did not go down well with the aunt who informed Sibanda’s parents. The source said Sibanda’s parents were at a loss for words after she told them that she was impregnated by her cousin.

Gweshe said following that a meeting was held and the two  lovebirds were invited to explain their affair.

“The two attended the meeting. Tadiwanashe said she only discovered that Mazula was her cousin after the pregnancy. We were plunged into further shock when Mazula admitted  that he was the one responsible for the pregnancy and that he wanted  to marry her,” said Gweshe.

Gweshe disclosed that their romance was against their culture.

“This is a love affair made from hell  because in our culture it’s taboo for  a cousin to marry his cousin because  these are biological relatives ufunge mwana we mukoma ne  mwana wemusikana (Their  parents are siblings). They have soiled our family reputation,” she said.

The matter was referred to Chief Njelele.

Fanuel Mhike who is the secretary to Chief Njelele confirmed the matter.

“We are dealing with a strange matter where a man impregnated his cousin and vows to marry her. As custodians of culture we are against that. We will fine him (Rufaro Mazula) two beasts for committing such an abomination,” said Mhike.
