A Bulawayo woman told a court that she was living in fear of her husband who was always threatening to assault her with a knobkerrie on the ribs.
Hazel Bedza from New Luveve suburb dragged her husband, Sindiso Sibanda, who is self-employed as an auto electrician, to court saying he was in possession of a knobkerrie, which he was always threatening her with.
Bedza, who was seeking a protection order at the Bulawayo Civil Court told the presiding magistrate Nkosinomusa Ncube that her husband was also threatening to assault their 20-year-old daughter, who is pregnant so that she can suffer a miscarriage.
“I am the applicant in this matter and the respondent Sindiso Sibanda is the father of my children. He is abusive towards me and the children. He often threatens to beat me with a knobkerrie saying my children will witness the battering. This now causes our children to live in fear as well. Last week he threatened to break my ribs with a knobkerrie,” said Bedza
Amid sobs, Bedza added: “He also threatened to beat our 20-year-old daughter who is pregnant so that she can suffer a miscarriage. He is accusing her of siding with me. Her blood pressure is now high as a result of his constant threats.”
She further said her husband was no longer sleeping at home.
“I want him to leave the house for good as he is now staying at his small house’s place. He is also insulting children with vulgar language,” she said.
Sibanda, however, didn’t come to court to defend himself leading the magistrate to grant the protection order in favour of his wife. The magistrate ordered him not to threaten and verbally abuse her and the children.
