A woman from Emakhandeni suburb has been enduring a stressful marital life because her husband sleeps with an Okapi knife under his pillow and when she refuses to have sex with him, he threatens to stab her to death.
Nosizi Sibanda (34) said her husband Mxolisi Tshuma (41) is violent and sleeps with an Okapi knife under the pillow. She said when she refuses to have sex with him, Mxolisi would accuse her of leasing his sexual goodies to someone because he once stumbled on a stray love message on her phone.
Mxolisi would go a gear up and threaten to kill his wife while accusing her of cheating on him. In a fit of fury he would label his wife a prostitute and at times he would assault her.
Nosizi approached Western Commonage Civil Court and applied for a protection order against her physically and verbally abusive husband.
“I am applying for a protection order against my husband Mxolisi Tshuma. The problem started after he stumbled on a stray love message on my phone. Following that he accused me of cheating on him while I was not. Since then, he has been sleeping with a knife under the pillow, when I refuse to have sex with him, he would get angry and accuse me of sleeping around,” she said.
Mxolisi admitted that he sleeps with an Okapi knife under the pillow saying it was for self-defense.
“When I was young, I was taught that a man has to keep a knobkerrie or a knife in his bedroom for self-defense. I never keep it for use to attack my wife,” said Mxolisi.
The presiding magistrate Jeconia Prince Ncube granted Nosizi the protection order against her husband. The protection order compels Mxolisi never to sleep with a knife under the pillow and never to threaten to stab his wife whenever she denies him sex.
