A 60-YEAR-OLD man who was relieving himself along Bulawayo-Beitbridge road soiled himself as two unidentified men pounced on him and robbed him of cash and two cellphones.
A source close to investigations said the 60-year-old man (name withheld)was travelling to Beitbridge and parked his Toyota vehicle at the 313km peg. He went to a bushy area to answer nature’s call.
The source said while he was still relieving himself two unidentified men who were wielding Okapi knives and sticks pounced on him.
“He soiled himself as he was trying to wear his trousers. They demanded cash. One of them hit him several times with a stick on the head and all over the body,” said the source.
They were not yet done with him. The source said they force-marched him to his car while assaulting him.
“He fractured a leg and suffered deep wounds on the head.
“They took his two valuables that include a Vodacom cellphone, Nokia 2100 and R1 200 cash. They left him in agony on the ground and fled,” said the source.
A source said after an hour the robbery victim regained consciousness.
A good Samaritan drove him to a police station where a police report was made before he was rushed to Beitbridge District Hospital for treatment.
Acting Matabeleland South police spokesperson Inspector Loveness Mangena confirmed the incident.
