Trisa Ray Sibanda
A 40-YEAR-OLD man from Famona village in Inyathi, Matabeleland North province was allegedly killed following a dispute over a girlfriend.
The matter came to light following the arrest of Mthokozisi Sibanda (23) on 17 June 2022.
Matabeleland North province Inspector Glory Banda confirmed the arrest of Mthokozisi saying his accomplice Nduna Ndlovu was on the run.
“We are appealing for information from members of the public that can lead to the arrest of Nduna Ndlovu,” he said.
Circumstances are that on the day in question and at around 9pm the now deceased Thabani Mhlanga left Famona Business Centre in the company of his girlfriend Sidanisile Sibanda (37) and the two murder suspects who are all from Famona village going to their respective homesteads.
While on their way, a misunderstanding reportedly arose between Mhlanga and Ndlovu where the latter was accusing Mhlanga of snatching his girlfriend, Sidanisile.
Mthokozisi then joined the argument while on Mthokozisi side before they started assaulting Mhlanga.
In the process they reportedly strangled until he fell unconscious.
Sidanisile and the two murder suspects left the scene leaving Mhlanga lying on the ground.
It is reported that on the following day and at around 7pm, a villager stumbled upon Mhlanga’s lifeless body which was about 30 metres away from the scene of crime.
The matter was reported to the police who attended the scene.
Upon observing the body police discovered that it had sustained bruises around the neck and a cut on the forehead.
The body was taken to Inyathi District Hospital for post mortem.
Insp Banda urged members of the public to desist from using violence as a way of resolving disputes.
