IN an incident akin to the famous Biblical scene where King David sees Bathsheba bathing and had her brought to him, a 33-year-old man from Kensington on the outskirts of Bulawayo was booked after he stormed into his 28-year-old neighbour’s bedroom while she was bathing and allegedly groped her breasts.
Just like King David who was condemned when he rose off his bed and walked upon the roof of the house where he saw a woman washing herself, Mengezi Phiri from Plot 419 along Harcord Road and for reasons yet to be known landed himself in trouble when he entered his neighbour’s bedroom while she was naked and allegedly fondled her breasts.
It is reported that on an unknown date but sometime in June this year, Phiri stormed into his neighbour whose name is being withheld for legal reasons’ bedroom where he found her bathing.
It is reported that without saying anything, Phiri who seemed to have been attracted to the woman in her birthday suit, reached out his hand and forcibly touched her breasts.
On being confronted by the victim, who is hearing impaired, it is alleged that he quickly bolted out of the bedroom and made good his escape.
Disturbed by Phiri’s behaviour, the victim decided to get help from her relatives who reportedly advised her to report the matter to the police.
The woman later approached the police and lodged a case against Phiri leading to his arrest.
For the offence Phiri was brought before Bulawayo magistrate Amanda Ndlovu facing a charge of indecent assault as defined in section 67 (1) (a) of the Criminal law (Codification and Reform) Act Chapter 9:23.
He pleaded not guilty and was remanded out of custody on $1 500 bail.
