In arriving at the sentence the magistrate noted that Khumalo was a dangerous person in the society and that when he committed the offence, the torched car could have exploded and burnt houses in the suburb.

The court heard that on 17 October 2022, Khumalo accused his 15-year-old girlfriend of two-timing him.

This was after he had stumbled on love messages on her phone in which she was exchanging with her other lover.

After that he grabbed her by her throat before he slapped and kicked her all over the body.

His lover however, managed to free herself and fled to her house.

The daring Khumalo gave chase but he couldn’t catch up with her.

The court heard that Khumalo made a U-turn and went to a nearby service station and bought petrol which he poured on his lover’s father’s car before setting it alight.

The matter was reported to the police leading to his arrest.
