POLICE in Bulawayo have arrested three men who battered their friend’s love rival several times with sjamboks accusing him of snatching their friend’s lover.

Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident and said at first Mathias Mpofu confronted Lebani Moyo (26) accusing him of being a womaniser and snatching his lover before attacking him with an axe.

“I can confirm that we are investigating an attempted murder case that occurred at Ascot Farm, Umguza district in Matabeleland North where at first Mathias (Mpofu) attacked Lebani (Moyo) with the back of an axe on the head accusing him of snatching his girlfriend,” he said.

He added that his friends — Artwell Simango and Yenzi Moyo — joined in the merciless attack as they took turns to thrash him with sjamboks all over the body.

Insp Ncube said Lebani was left lying in a pool of blood. He sustained bruises all over the body. Insp Ncube said a Good Samaritan ferried him to Mpilo Central Hospital where he was treated and discharged on the same day.

Lebani made a police report at ZRP Mpilo Post leading to the arrest of the accused.

Insp Ncube warned members of the public to desist from engaging in violence when faced with disputes.

“Members of the public are warned not to take law into their hands because that might lead to death. They should seek counselling from pastors, community elders or police officers,” he said.
