IF you’re in love with someone, at least, be kind enough to pepper their name with proverbial sweet words.

A Bulawayo woman broke her old sweetheart’s soul when he found out that he was saved as madala (old man) in her phone. For ‘madala’ Francis Moyo who never thought how his number was saved, however, became a big deal for him when he accidentally saw it in his live-in friend Sicelo Mhlanga’s phone.

Madala Francis from Robert Sinyoka in Bulawayo who also apparently expected something more affectionate such as ‘babe, sweetie and honey’ flew into a rage and allegedly pummelled his lover of two years until she fell unconscious.

According to reports on Saturday afternoon, the couple were at home when Moyo misplaced his phone and he took his lover’s phone so that he could call it. It is reported that when he called his number, he was shocked when he discovered that he was saved as Madala.

“Moyo who thought the way he was saved didn’t communicate any sentimental attachment started shouting at his lover. When he asked her to find out what it meant, Mhlanga simply looked at him and started stammering.

“As she was trying to cook up an excuse, Moyo who was not prepared to buy any of her explanations repeatedly assaulted her with fists all over the body,” the source who claimed had intimate details of the incident recounted, adding that Moyo expected something more romantic.

The source further said after he repeatedly assaulted her, she became unconscious and was later rescued by neighbours.

“All along people thought Moyo was a kind man who did not raise his hand on his lover who was always complimenting him saying he was a tiger in bed,” said the source.

The matter was reported to the police, but Mhlanga later withdrew the charges at the instigation of her relatives who claimed Moyo had apologised to them. When approached by B-Metro both Moyo and Mhlanga wouldn’t share their problem saying: “This is a family matter. It shouldn’t be discussed with newspapers.”
