“It’s all in the spirit of taking the game of pool to the people.

I’m happy to say this kind of a pool tournament comes right on the heels of our successful visit to Binga where we held a tournament at different centres last weekend.

On Sunday and Monday, pool lovers will meet at Siyabonga Bar and Bottle Store for the Heroes Inyathi Inkomo/Mombe contest.

The qualifiers will be played on Sunday and the finals are scheduled for the next day,” said BPPA marketing and publicity officer Osbornewells Dziko.

He said the playing format would be race to 13 and the participation fee is pegged at US$30 for a competition that is expected to have 24 teams.

“We are expecting to have 24 teams taking part with three guest teams coming from Inyathi.

This is a tournament that will see winners go home with a cow and the first runners-up will get two goats.

The third best club will receive a goat and the team that finishes in position four will get four chickens as their prize,” said Dziko.

He added: “Players whose contracts expired mid-season have to renew them first before they can be allowed to play.

It is, however, still sketchy whether teams will be allowed to register one team for the tournament.”

Dziko also revealed that BPPA’s central business district league will hold a similar tournament on Saturday and Sunday.

The tournament’s qualifiers will be held at Skittle Inn, Waverley Hotel and Klehmint, (formerly Royal Nightclub).
