UNHERALDED Golden Eagles player Kudzo Chiwara has joined Spanish Segunda first division side AD Alcorcon.
Chiwara (22) is reportedly a product of Harare-based BN Academy and Golden Eagles are a Northern Region Division one side which has renowned sports casters Barry Manandi and Mike Madoda among the founding members.
Writing on her Facebook Wall, the young footballer’s mother Tsungi Chiwara went: “Please help me thank the Lord and extend a MASSIVE CONGRATULATIONS to our son Kudzo for joining his new home, Alcorcon, in Madrid, Spain.”
She added: “To God be the glory! I am beyond proud of my beloved son, for the person who he is and for his brilliant start to his professional football career. He inspires me with his faith in God, sound character, work ethic, discipline, resilience, grit and sheer passion for football. This is only the beginning – the only way is up.”
The Spanish Segunda is relatively competitive and Alcorcón is a team based in Alcorcón, in the autonomous community of Madrid.
Founded in 1971, the club is holding its home matches at the Municipal de Santo Domingo, with a 5 100-seating capacity.
Alcorcón spent roughly its first 30 years of existence in between the fourth division and the regional leagues.
Alcorcón played its first match on 8 September 1971 against Atlético Madrid (youth team) and lost 0-2. In 2000-2001, it made its Segunda División B debut, finishing in 12th place, and spending the following seasons immersed in mid-table positions.
In the 2003/2004 season Alcolcórn led by coach Raúl González finished in 10th position in Segunda División B.
