THE Sables will temporarily ‘ditch’ their stripped green and white jersey to today’s second match against Burkina Faso at the request of the Match Commissioner who felt the two teams’ kits were similar thus could lead to ‘confusion’ on the pitch.
Zimbabwe will instead don an all-red jersey leaving the visitors to march onto the pitch in green and while.
“The Sables will today play against Burkina Faso in a red strip jersey not the traditional hooped green and white jersey. This was necessitated by a request from the Match Commissioner and Referees who felt the Zimbabwe and Burkina Faso jerseys were too close with both teams having green and white jerseys.
“Being the home team and having an alternate strip close by, with our opposition not having an alternate strip with them it then fell on us to provide the substitute,” said Zimbabwe Rugby Union.
The Sables beat Burkina 101 – 3 on Sunday.
Today’s second Rugby Africa Pool D match will be played at the Old Georgians Sports Club
