A seven-year-old girl was dragged into a yard by three boys who reportedly took turns to sexually assault her.

The rape incident happened in Njube suburb. Deputy police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele confirmed the incident. She advised parents or guardians to always make sure that their minor children are accompanied to and from school.

“Parents must not take chances with their children, they have to make sure that their minor children are accompanied to and from school because failure to do so will put their lives at risk,” she said.

She added: “Rape victims should seek medical attention within 72 hours so that they would be given Post Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) so as to prevent one from contracting HIV virus. And so that they would be offered counselling at the health institution.”

A source close to the seven-year-old minor said while the minor was walking past Njube suburb three boys aged 9, 10 and 13 blocked the unsuspecting minor before they dragged her into a yard.

“The minor was coming from school shortly after midday. The three boys blocked her way before they dragged her into a durawalled yard of one of the alleged sex attackers’ home.

“When they were there they undressed her and after that they took turns to sexually attack her. After raping her, one of the boys slapped the minor on the face before they fled,” said a source.

The girl went home and when she arrived at home her mother noticed that she was walking with difficulty and questioned her.

“She revealed that she was raped by three boys in Njube suburb. She reported the matter at Njube police station leading to the arrest of one of the alleged sex offenders. The other two boys are yet to be arrested,” said a source close to investigations.
