THE Zimbabwe women’s national cricket team is in India for a training camp that will help them prepare for the forthcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier that will be held in the United Arab Emirates in September.
The Lady Chevrons arrived in Bengaluru on Tuesday with a squad of 16 players after they accepted an invitation from the Omtex ICWC Cricket Institute,.
The team will be in India for 18 days during which they will play five Twenty20 (T20) games against local sides.
Captained by Mary-Anne Musonda, Lady Chevrons started their training matches on Thursday with a clash against the Karnataka State Women’s Select. On Friday, they are also due for action with the rest of the T20 matches scheduled for 18, 20 and 21 July.
“The team arrived in Bengaluru on Tuesday with a squad of 16 players, led by the captain Mary-Anne Musonda. After accepting an invitation to tour from the Omtex ICWC Cricket Institute, Zimbabwe Women will be in India for 18 days during which they will play five Twenty20 (T20) games against local sides.
All the matches will be played at the NICE Cricket Arena in Bengaluru. After the T20 games, Zimbabwe will also be involved in three one-day matches against the locals,” said Zimbabwe Cricket in a statement.
Meanwhile, Zimbabwe wicketkeeper Modester Mupachikwa and all-rounder Josephine Nkomo are in the United Kingdom to play for two different clubs.
Mupachikwa left early this week to join Spencer Cricket Club while Josephine Nkomo joined her teammates at South North Bulls last month.
