Bulawayo-born and bred wheel spinner Ngqabutho “DJ Khanda Cool” Mpofu is having the best time both in his life and music career in Europe as he is rubbing shoulders with some of Africa’s great performers on different platforms.

The year 2022 is a blessing to Khanda Cool as it has taken his career from the bottom to a much comfortable level as he is getting booked for various gigs as well as getting privileged to perform at international festivals.
So far so good, the Guta Ra Mwari brethren (soldier) managed to be a headlining act at this year’s Zim Fest(ival) which took place on 6 August at Hertfordshire showgrounds in England.

On the particular festivity, he was privileged to perform with artistes such as Ex Q, Zim Dancehall gaffer Winky D, Madam Boss, Sulumani Chimbetu, DJ Fistoz, Chichi Zulu, DJ Chief, Khanda Cool, as well as South Africa’s multi-award-winning songstress Makhadzi.

As if that was not enough, the War Cry hitmaker also performed at the Afro Piano Fest(val) as well as performing at the AmaFest, an event which had top drawer performers including South Africa’s DJ Tira, DBN Gogo, TxC, Kojo Funds as well as Costa Titch.

Khanda Cool’s engine is not cooling or slowing down, as he has been selected to play on the decks at this year’s StarBoy Festival, which is Nigerian superstar Wizkid’s annually held festival in Cyprus.

From his base in the United Kingdom, Khanda Cool said it was a privilege to be among artistes who were given a chance to perform at top festivals in the UK especially in the post-Covid-19 lockdown era.

“2022 has been a blessing to me. I have played at three festivals and got one more major one to go which is Wizkid’s StarBoy Festival which will be held in Cyprus.

“Most artistes, especially Africans, failed to rise to the occasion after the Covid-19 pandemic but I feel blessed to be among those who managed to pull up and get gigs.

“I have so far performed with the likes of DBN Gogo, DJ Tira and Costa Titch, artistes I believe are top stars,” said Khanda Cool.

The wheel spinner who had a one-man gig at the local Cosmopolitan VIP Club last year in December said performing in Europe was different from performing locally.

“The energy I give on performances depends on the crowd I am performing for. It’s pretty good to perform in front of the European crowd, they like current stuff (music) so you must know what kind of songs are trending.

“The African crowd is amazing because they are there to party and don’t care much about social media and content which makes them bring a different vibe altogether.”
