When they displayed a “snippet” of the much-anticipated Songs of Queen Lozikeyi musical play at the second edition of the youthful Bulawayo Arts Festival (BAF), many, including President Mnangagwa, were left begging for more.
Four months down the line, the creators of the musical play have announced that the much-awaited offering is ready to be released all over the world.
The production will provoke the emergence of the Ndebele Kingdom Queen and complicated warrior Lozikeyi Dlodlo.
“Songs of the great Ndebele Queen, Lozikeyi of Lobengula, have emerged from the recording studio and are ready to be released to the world.
A royal collaboration of 11 acclaimed artists of Bulawayo, ‘City of Kings’, the studio production Songs of Queen Lozikeyi, follows a scintillating performance and rave reviews of the initial collaboration staged at Bulawayo Arts Festival in June 2021,” reads a statement from Nhimbe Trust.
The Songs of Queen Lozikeyi production has a potential of touring the world once the catastrophic Covid-19 wave dissipates.
All-female Imbube ensemble Nobuntu, Nkwali, Thandi Dlana, Prince Joel Nyoni, Caleb Mujere, Paul Maseko, Raymond Takawira, Sthandazile Dube and Thandokuhle Sibanda are the artistes on the production.
