A 20-YEAR-OLD man from Bulawayo has appeared in court facing charges of allegedly defiling his 12-year-old friend, who is a Grade Seven pupil at a local school.
Sylvester Tatenda Gova who stays at ZRP Hillside Old camp is facing two counts of allegedly raping the minor girl and also stays at ZRP Hillside Old camp.
He was not asked to plead and was remanded in custody to October 6.
Allegations against Gova are that on 22 August 2021 and at around 5pm he lied to the complainant that he had been sent on an errand before he asked her to accompany him and the victim agreed.
It is yet to be proven that along the way the accused started fondling the girl’s breasts before he undressed her. He then reportedly had sexual intercourse with her.
It is further reported that on 11 September 2021 and at around 7pm the accused using the same modus operandi of lying to the complainant that he had been sent on an errand, he asked her to accompany him and she agreed.
At around 8.30pm the complainant went to the accused’s house and they both left the house and went to the backyard where the accused started fondling the victim’s breasts.
In the process, he reportedly undressed the complainant and allegedly had sexual intercourse with her.
Neighbours who became suspicious of the two’s close friendship alerted the girl’s parents who later confronted her.
Upon being questioned the girl revealed the alleged sexual abuse to her parents who then reported the matter to the police leading to the accused’s arrest and subsequent appearance in court.
