BULAWAYO football giants Highlanders are on Thursday set to face city rivals Bulawayo Chiefs in a Chibuku Super Cup tie without the services of injured Adrian Silla, Devine Mhindiriri and Muziwakhe Dlamini.

Speaking at the club’s press conference on Tuesday, Bosso technical manager Mandla “Lulu” Mpofu said Silla sustained a groin injury while the duo of Mhindiriri and Dlamini were seeking to recover from hamstring injuries.

“We are obviously a motivated lot. We recently got a big sponsorship boost ahead of the resumption of the Chibuku Super Cup games. But we will go into our game against Bulawayo Chiefs without injured Adrian, Muziwakhe and Devine. We hope they will recover in time before we get engaged in our other Chibuku Super Cup games,” said Mpofu.

The gaffer boldly declared that they will seek to post a positive result against Amakhosi Amahle, a development that will brighten their chances of defending the title.

Bosso won the 2019 edition of the Chibuku Super Cup after edging Ngezi Platinum Stars 1-0 courtesy of a Prince Dube wonder goal.

“We really want to defend this cup. After that massive sponsorship injection, the boys know that they will now consistently get their dues which means we are in exciting times. That in itself should motivate us to go all the way to the final,” said Mpofu.

His sentiments were echoed by club captain Ariel “Mangoye” Sibanda.

“We have been training hard. We have picked ourselves up and as such we want to win this trophy once again and give our new sponsors the mileage they deserve,” said the veteran goalminder.

Highlanders and Dynamos have continuously hailed their new-found partnership with energy company Sakunda Holdings who recently unveiled a combined sponsorship package of about US$5.3 million.

The two clubs will receive US$900,000 per year each for salaries, bonuses and signing on fees.
