An armed gang pounced at a house in Mahatshula suburb and viciously attacked the owner of the house several times with a bolt cutter and an iron rod, leaving him lying unconscious on the floor.
A relative of the victim said while the owner of the house was sleeping, he heard noise in the kitchen. He woke up to check what was happening but he was met with tragedy.
“When he got into the kitchen he was shocked to find three men standing while two of the gang members were standing outside the yard .One of the guys pointed a knife at him while threatening to stab him if he screamed,” said a relative.
He retreated into his living room and one of the thieves dashed to him and attacked him with a bolt cutter on the face and head. He fell down.
The gang did not have mercy as they went on to savagely attack him all over the body with an iron rod.
“A medical report shows that he sustained a fractured rib and a crack on the left arm,” said a family member.
They went on to steal his Huawei Y6 2019 cellphone with an Econet line and fled.
Later on the man gained consciousness and reported the matter at Queens Park police station.
Bulawayo deputy police spokesperson Assistant inspector Nomalanga Msebele confirmed the incident.
“I can confirm that we are investigating a case of unlawful entry and theft committed in aggravated circumstances where five thieves pounced at a house in Mahatshula suburb and assaulted the house owner before stealing his cellphone.”
