A team of 12 Zimbabwean junior tennis players is set to participate in African Zonal Championships scheduled for South Africa this weekend.
The two-day zonal championships are used as qualifiers for a berth in the African Championships later this year.
Tennis Zimbabwe administrator Cliff Nhokwara expressed confidence in the team saying there was no way the team would fail to qualify for the African Junior Championships as they had assembled a young but strong team.
a�?I have great confidence in the team. Despite their young ages I am sure they will represent us well and qualify for the African Junior Championships,a�? said Nhokwara.
Zimbabwe is pinning its hopes on top players such as 15-year-old Andrew Kunaka and Beverly Matsiwe who are also in the squad.
Matsiwe is set to be joined by Kimberly Kaome in the Under 16 girlsa�� category.
Other members of the team include Under-12a��s gilsa�� Clair Machisa and Nicole Matukire as well as Under-14 girlsa�� Charlotte Zhuwakini and Vimbai Moyo.
The Under 12 boysa�� team will be represented by Michael Happy and Bukhosi Moyo while Ethan Sibanda and Tinashe Taruberekera are in the Under-14.
Trump card Kunaka will be joined by Tanaka Chabata in the boys Under 16 section.
The team will be accompanied by coaches Juliet Sibanda from Bulawayo and Mutarea��s George Dzinoreva.
The Zonal Championships run from 9-10 January.
