LONG ago, he set a target that by the time he reaches 35 years of age, he must at least be owning a four-roomed house with the title deeds under his name.
With his Gods smiling upon him two years before he reached his target age, Magwegwe West bred muso Msiz’Kay is now a proud owner of a fully serviced residential stand which he won at the 2022 edition of the Roil Bulawayo Arts Awards (RoilBAAs).

The 33-year-old multi-award-winning sensation was awarded the stand at the glamorous awards after he won the People’s Choice category.
His stand is said to be situated in Emganwini.
“I haven’t been handed the stand officially as the sponsors Trophy Consultants International (TCI) and the RoilBAA organisers are planning a colourful hand-over take-over ceremony but with confidence I can say the stand is at Emganwini,” said the bubbly Msiz’Kay.
While many are claiming music doesn’t pay in Bulawayo, Msiz’Kay said he is a living testimony that one can succeed in the dog-eat-dog industry.
“People have been saying music doesn’t pay or local creatives won’t make it in life through their music. But today I stand as a testament that anything is possible for local artistes to achieve their goals.
“It’s only a matter of knowing your target market and making sure your brand and products are always visible in the market,” said Msiz’Kay.
The Kulula hitmaker, who attracts between US$300 to US$600 for a show appearance (according to a close source), can manage to build a fully extended house in at least two years, that is if he gets a maximum of three shows a month, earning an average of US$400 per gig.
However, the process of building the house has to be fast as he wants to set a pace, be a good example and give hope to local creatives.
To fuel the process, Msiz’Kay is seeking donations and help from individuals and companies in form of building material.
“Leyi yindlu ka Mrapper (this is a rapper’s house) therefore, I need to set a good example to my counterparts in the industry that it’s possible to achieve everything you desire,” said Msiz Kay.
