Intwasa Short Story competition calls for entries

Bulawayo’s celebrated arts festivity Intwasa Arts Festival Ko Bulawayo which is set to run from 28 September to 1 October, has called upon aspiring writers to submit their works for consideration in this year’s Short Story competition.

The competition is a feature at Intwasa Arts Festival, which has given birth to many different writers in the city of Bulawayo.

Deadline for submission is 20 September.

All entries should have a cover page with information including the writer’s name, physical address, email address and telephone number.

Only short-listed candidates will be personally notified.

To enter the competition, the entry must be marked “Short Story Competition” and it should be sent via email to [email protected] or they can be hand delivered at Intwasa Arts Festival Studio 10 at the National Gallery in Bulawayo.

On their social media pages, Intwasa, an annual festival which celebrates 18 years this year, posted that the Short Story competition’s top winners would be rewarded in cash.

The first prize winner will pocket US$300, the second placed winner will get US$200 while the third placed winner will walk away with US$100 in cash.

The rules of the competition state that “the competition is open to all Zimbabwe citizens and residents and there are no specific themes that govern the competition”.

“All entries must be written in English and previously unpublished not forgetting that all the works must be original with one entry allowed per person.

“Entries must be typed between 2000 and 3000 words and the story must not be an extract from a novel,” reads the statement issued by Intwasa.
